A mother’s experience of Oxford University Hospitals Maternity Services in 2009:
It seems a long time ago to some of you but to me it is fresh in my mind. My eldest daughter was born Christmas 2009.
I attended the maternity unit on Boxing Day morning at 2am. After many hours labour, I felt her back to back but apparently I was wrong!
I was struggling for hours and finally went down to delivery suite at 7pm on 26th. 7 epidural attempts including a spinal block for an hour it was very patchy. Ventouse, forceps the ventouse and finally forceps again - she finally arrived at 00.10 on 27th.
They stop the epidural (not doing much anyway) and then as they pulled on the umbilical cord, I had a uterine inversion. No one told me what was going on.
My husband was at the foot of the bed and witnessed it all!
This happened in the delivery suite and not in the operating theatre! Everyone was so busy that we were left alone after they stitched me.
I have had to have surgery to correct issues.
I worked for the trust at the time and by the time I had the courage and strength to complain I was told it’s too late!
I had to push for an induction with my second as I was so scared to go through it again. The consultant described it asking me to go through “road traffic accident”
